Location The Jola people are located in three plus countries in West Africa: Senegal: The largest number of Jola are located in the Casamance region of Southern Senegal. It is a strip of forested and river bottom land between The Gambia and Guinea Bissau, currently a dangerous area because of rebels trying to separate the Casamance from the rest of Senegal. The Gambia: Many Jola farm and live along the south bank of the Gambia River, while many have also moved to the city area around Banjul for employment opportunities or education. The Gambia is a strip of land along both sides of the Gambia River like a long, crooked finger stuck into Senegal, separating the Casamance from the rest of Senegal. Guinea Bissau: A smaller number live in the northern part of this small country below Senegal. It is a war-torn country with no missionaries to the Jola. Other West Africa Countries: Lesser numbers of Jola are found in other West Africa countries.
